What do you do when you're working on a quilt you absolutely CAN'T STAND? Do you power through and finish it or add it to your pile of WIPs, perhaps never to be finished or re-visited at a much later date? This has happened a few times to me in the past few months. One has moved to the bottom of the pile and the other I decided to power through and finish! I'll start with the back...
I love this elephant print. I bought quite a large piece of it awhile back and pieced a matching top! I really wanted to make another quilt using this as the back. I only had a few small pieces of coordinating prints of tiny turquoise and orange elephants. Here's the finished quilt...
I'm really not in love with this, but it has grown on me a tiny bit. It's no secret I love using white in my baby quilts, practical or not, but this is too much white even for me! Perhaps I would have liked it more had I used a different colour instead of the white! Anyway, I would love to know what you do with your not so loved WIPs.
Linking up with Amanda Jean for Finish It Up Friday!
Have a great weekend everyone!!!
I have had this happen to me twice - and they are both still hiding in my sewing room out of sight somewhere. I keep thinking I should finish them, but then never want to dedicate precious sewing time to them haha!
ReplyDeleteI know, right!!! Not to mention the $$$ involved in finishing them!
DeleteI think it is adorable-but I also LOVE elephants, chevrons & negative space-so it is right up my alley! (But I understand having a quilt top you thought would be great in your head, but are not in love with it once it is done!)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think I should just focus on the cute fabric on the back!
DeleteI love the quilt!
ReplyDeleteI think it's really nice. Really. I like the front and the back.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI don't like to use white on baby quilts either, but it looks absolutely awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI really like it! The little elephants are so fun.
ReplyDeleteThey are, aren't they! I love the babies!
ReplyDeleteI really like the quilt. With my quilts I don't like, I often just push through but they don't turn out that cute! Sometimes I do set them aside in hopes that some great idea will hit.
ReplyDeleteAfter having worked through (and given away some) 30 UFOs, I really enjoy finishing things. If it is a quilt I don't like as much, then I enjoy the process. I feel so good when I finish things. If it is a quilt I can't stand then I give away the unfinished project. With that said, I must say that I love this quilt, and I don't mind white in baby quilts.
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you! I agree - it really does feel good to finish things!
DeleteI did my first mystery quilt awhile ago and when I found out the main theme was elephants I was't so thrilled with all the detail that had to go into it so it was a huge struggle to finish and in the end it didn't grow on me and has become one of my "to do quilts". I have found it hard to go back to it and actually quilt it. I might warm to it once it is quilted. I think if you really don't like a quilt top or where it is going you should give it away for someone else to love and finish off.
